FOLLOW HIS MONEY
It seemed this past cycle that every time a new story about a corrupt member of Congress came to light that it wasn't long before so too did Rep. Fossella's FEC statements showing he took money from them. This pattern of choosing money over ethics is just another reason the people of his district need to send him into early retirement in 2008. Seriously, do you need a Representative in Congress who has taken $10,000 from Tom DeLay and refuses to return the dirty money or believe he did anything immoral? Here are Rep. Fossella's most infamous campaign donors;

Rep. Tom DeLay (R-TX), ARMPAC

Resigned from Congress amid ethics scandals. Currently under indictment for money laundering.

total donated: $10,000
amount returned: none

Rep. Bob Ney (R-OH)
Resigned from Congress following a guilty plea to charges of conspiracy and making false statements in relation to the Jack Abramoff Indian lobbying scandal. Ney hosted Fossella at an annual lobbyist event in Vail, Colorado from 2001-2006.

total donated: $500
amount returned: $500

Jack Abramoff
Pled guilty to three criminal felony counts in federal court related to the defrauding of American Indian tribes and corruption of public officials plus two criminal felony counts. Sentenced to 10 months in prison.

"Records show that a June 2002 $1,000-per-ticket fund-raiser for Fossella at a Yankees-Orioles game in Baltimore was hosted by Abramoff and aide Tony Rudy. Both Abramoff and Rudy have pleaded guilty and are cooperating with the FBI. Fossella denies that Abramoff and Rudy hosted the event, and claims the Greenberg Traurig firm had given him the tickets." [NY Daily News] The National Republican Congressional Campaign disagrees, having posted this on their site; "Join Vito Fossella ... with Tony Rudy and Jack Abramoff for a baseball game."
This event netted him at least $26,550.
amount returned: none

Tony Rudy
Former staffer and deputy chief of staff for Rep Tom DeLay. Later joined Jack Abramoff at Greenberg Traurig. Implicated in the Jack Abramoff guilty plea as unindicted co-conspirator. Pled guilty to one charge of conspiracy.

Neil Volz
Former Chief of Staff to Rep. Bob Ney and later worked for Jack Abramoff at Greenberg Traurig LLP. Pled guilty to one count of conspiracy, including wire fraud and violating House rules, charges stemming from his work both for Ney and for Greenberg Traurig.

total donated: $500
amount returned: $500 (actual amount disputed; see below)

Financial Discrepancy
While Rep. Vito Fossella has indicated he donated all of the money he took from Neil Volz, FEC records indicated that he failed to do so and only donated $250. [source NY13 blog]

Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA)
Recently was forced to resign all of his Congressional Committee assignments after his house was raided by the FBI on April 19, 2007 in connection with the Jack Abramoff corruption scandal. September 2007, was subpoenaed for documents from a grand jury of the U.S. District Court for Washington, D.C.

total donated: $2,000
amount returned: none

Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL)
Chairman of the House Page Board who knew of sexually explicit communication between former Rep. Foley and underage pages.

total donated: $250
amount returned: none

Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL)
Resigned from Congress amid a sex scandal involving underage pages.

total donated: $1,000
amount returned: $1,000 (actual amount disputed; see below)

Financial Discrepancy
